Best Quick Detach Scope Mounts – Top 4 in 2020

Not everybody likes quick detach scope mounts. However, they come with some notable benefits. It’s why today’s article looks at reasons to use QD scope mounts and explores the best products on the market.

In my opinion, hyper-efficient QD scopes are best suited to hunters who enjoy shooting but get less pleasure out of prep and planning.

And that’s perfectly fine. Some of us love to get up at the crack of dawn and relish every opportunity to inspect, clean and get a feel for our weapon. Other people want to skip the warm-up and get straight to target shooting. We’re all different.

Although let’s be honest, even the setup sloths don’t always have the time for it. Owning a quick detach scope mount can be the difference between ‘I don’t have time today’ and ‘okay, just a quick trip then, Certainly, they’re worth considering if you‘re low on time but looking to make the most of what you have.

Things to Consider When Buying a QD Scope Mount

Although let’s be honest, even the setup sloths don’t always have the time for it. Owning a quick detach scope mount can be the difference between ‘I don’t have time today’ and ‘okay, just a quick trip then, Certainly, they’re worth considering if you‘re low on time but looking to make the most of what you have.

1. Size

QD scope mounts come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. You should have no trouble finding one that matches scope mount dimensions you’re already comfortable with or know you can shoot skilfully with.

If you switch up your scope regularly, it might be worth paying more for an adaptable product.

Similarly, if you get a kick out of shooting iron sight, you shouldn’t have problems finding a scope mount that sits just a little higher than usual. If you’ve never used a mount like this before, it can take some adjustment.

However, it’s still one of the quickest ways to switch between shooting iron sight and scope.

2. Weight

After precision, the most important consideration for experienced shooters is the weight. Depending on where you travel to hunt, you may have a trek or hike to complete before reaching your favorite spot.

The last thing you want is a bulky, heavy scope mount adding weight to your pack.

Trust me. Everybody feels like superman on the way there. Wait until you put that pack on your shoulders for the trek home. The lighter the better for a QD scope mount.

Aim Accuracy

3. Material

Not all quick detach scope mounts are made from aluminum, but the majority are. It’s a fantastic material and one that’s hard to beat. Aluminum is lightweight, highly durable and capable of withstanding knocks and scrapes.

Aluminum is far and out the best material for a QD scope mount. It’s going to absorb the pressure of hundreds of rounds without losing zero after every new volley.

Plus, it offers strength and long life.

You’re unlikely to use a QD mount all the time, so it’s going to be switched out on many occasions. Yours should be tough enough to tolerate bumpy trips in a range bag or pack.

gun and scope Safety

4. Operation

The primary purpose of quick detach scope mounts is to speed up the time it takes to apply and use a rifle scope. They also aid accuracy and stability while shooting to some degree.

Obviously, none of this is going to matter if you have a QD scope that can’t hold zero or a scope that unravels and falls after minutes.

The best quick detach mounts are easy to operate with no snags that slow down their movements. Your scope mount needs to provide instant release but also affix with total reliability and security in a matter of seconds.

To be honest, it can be tricky to find a product that provides all of this and re-zeros itself after removal. There is a handful of promising candidates.

We’ll discuss some of these later.

Proper rifle and scope aiming

Don’t forget, any QD scope mount you buy should move backward and forward to provide optimal eye relief.

TOP 4 QD Scope Mounts List

1. Mizugiwa Quick Release Scope Mount

MIZUGIWA 1inch :30mm Quick Release Cantilever Weaver Forward Reach Dual Ring Rifle Scope Mount

I like to look all over the world for high-quality hunting equipment. Limiting the search to American made products feels like a sure fire way to miss out on great products. So, don’t be surprised to find my first pick is a Chinese made mount.

The Mizugiwa Quick Release Scope Mount is not as widely known scopes from other brands.

You probably won’t find it in stores. So, you’ll have to get online to check this one out. Its ratings are phenomenal. In fact, it’s easily one of the best-rated QD scope mounts on the internet, maybe the best you’ve never heard of.

The Mizugiwa QD scope mount offers exceptional performance and can help even rookies straighten up their shots.

The scope mount is 13.5cm in length. This means it’s compatible with scopes of all shapes and sizes. We’ve touched upon the importance of flexibility with these products. Mizugiwa’s mount is highly adaptable.

Not to mention it looks superb being stylishly finished as it is in tactical matte black.

Key Features:

The Mizugiwa Quick Release Scope Mount comes with 25.4mm reducer inserts. Remove these and you can also use the mount with a 25mm or 30mm scope. There should be no trouble having the product work with 20mm Weaver rails either.

You can add all kinds of attachments and extras to the rail such as laser pointers or a clip-on flashlight. As regards front lens compatibility, you can use anything up to 56mm.

One of my favorite features is the QD scope mount’s clampdown system with its multiple bolts.

There are six bolts in total but they can all be released instantaneously with one fast action lever. This is ideal for fast pack downs and no fuss cleaning.

As the height of this particular scope mount is on the taller side, it’s a good choice for iron sight shooting. You shouldn’t need to remove the scope at all for this.

Final Verdict:

I’ve got a major soft spot for the Mizugiwa Quick Release Scope Mount. I know not many hunters know

about it, but I think they should.

It’s a magnificent mount that is long-lasting, adaptable and compatible with a huge range of rifle scopes.

PROS

  • Fits 20mm pica tinny weaver rails
  • Built in Weaver style rails - very handy fitting flashlights and lasers etc.
  • Front lens size: Up to 56mm

CONS

  • It doesn't lock down very well with the cams

2. Hammers Flat Top One Piece QD Scope Mount

Flat Top Offset One Piece QD Scope Mount with Quick Release Cam Locks 1913 Picatinny Rails

The Hammers Flat Top QD Scope Mount is another Chinese made product. I can hear you sighing back there, but just hear me out. China produces some truly excellent shooting and hunting equipment.

The quality is often on par with American products but prices tend to be cheaper. Certainly, you can pick up a high-quality quick detach scope mount for a fraction of the expected price.

Like Mizugiwa, Hammers sells primarily online and makes QD mounts out of aircraft-grade aluminum that perform impressively and look elegant. The Hammers Flat Top QD Scope Mount is aluminum with an anodized black surface.

It’s another mount that provides a surprising level of quality considering most will have never have heard it. This product has many positive reviews online if you’d like to know more.

This particular scope mount is 5.3 inches long and made to fit 30mm scope dimensions. Although, it also works with one inch scopes if you use the reducer inserts included with the product.

The offset ring mount lends itself well to longer scopes and, according to user reviews, the mount is a perfect fit for illuminated reticles too. So, you can see it’s an ‘all-rounder’ of a rifle accessory.

Key Features:

I’m particularly fond of the finger release mechanism on the Hammers Flat Top QD Scope Mount. The cam lock clamps are made for fast release via two fingers.

It means you never find yourself fumbling with clasps while prepping up or packing down. These clamps are among the sturdiest I’ve seen on both American and Chinese products.

What’s more, the cam lock clamps can be adjusted to release or increase pressure and facilitate a steady shot. You can expect to maintain a reliable, even zero until you switch the scope out or pack down.

Final Verdict:

When combined with a flat top Picatinny rail, the Hammers Flat Top QD Scope Mount deserves its reputation as a tough, versatile rifle accessory.

Though it isn’t a product I’ve utilized extensively, it performed well in tests. It holds a steady zero and offers some of the most intuitive shooting you could hope for.

PROS

  • Install in seconds with finger adjustable quick release cam locks
  • Offset design for better eye relief position
  • Works with both 30mm and 1 inch main tube rifle scopes

CONS

  • Might potentially not work when testing if it holds zero

3. UTG Med Pro QD Scope Mount

UTG 1:2PCs Med Pro LE Grade Picatinny QD Rings- 22mm Wide

You may have heard of this one. UTG is a better-known brand than both Hammers and Mizugiwa. In fact, it’s been manufacturing high-quality hunting products for nearly three decades.

There’s no need to wax lyrical about the reputation of the company; it has proved itself to be a master of precision. If it’s a significant boost in performance you want, this is a good place to start.

The UTG Med Pro QD Scope Mount comes in two parts. This multi-piece construction distinguishes it from rival products and helps the mount to be extra adaptable.

The scope mount’s two-piece QD rings are compatible with Weaver and Picatinny rails. I tested both options and experienced similar levels of sensitivity and intuitiveness.

Even being made from aircraft-grade aluminum, this UTG mount is super lightweight and compact. It weighs less than three ounces. While some may worry about this resulting in a flimsy design, the product feels robust in the hands.

The anodized matte black finish is standard for a scope mount but it’s still very stylish.

Key Features:

The clamp lock on this UTG QD scope mount is somewhat fiddlier than on the Hammers mount. Four screws are needed (per clamp) to firmly secure the locking mechanism over the scope.

While it works faster than you might think, I prefer a less complicated design. Then again, the quick-release lever makes removal a smooth, almost instant task.

UTG’s Med Pro QD Scope Mount is a medium profile attachment that affixes to a Picatinny rail. As the quick-release lever is adjustable, it doesn’t just maintain a firm hold, it also maintains a near flawless zero.

This steady zero should hold true even after the mount has been removed and/or switched out.

Final Verdict:

UTG has a reputation for rigorous, methodical product testing. The benefits are obvious to anybody who has ever used its scope mounts. The Med Pro is feature-rich without being overpacked or over heavy.

It’s lightweight, pretty to look at and can be disassembled and carried in two smaller pieces.

PROS

  • 4-screw medium profile "Tiger" ring
  • Precision machined from aircraft-grade aluminum alloy with Anodized Black Matte Finish
  • Ergonomic quick detach/lock lever fully adjustable to fit on any pica tinny rail

CONS

  • Can run tight on some worn scope mounts

4. Burris Optics AR PEPR QD Scope Mount

Burris Optics 410341 410342 410343 410344 P.E.P.R Riflescope Mount Ideal Mounting Solution Featuring Picatinny Ring Tops - Quick detach scope mount

Burris Optics is yet another celebrated maker of QD mounts and hunting equipment. It happens to be one of my all-time favorite brands.

It’s my go to brand when I need an attachment or accessory and I haven’t got time to trial something unfamiliar. I trust Burris Optics to deliver consistent performance.

The Burris Optics AR PEPR QD Scope Mount is, unsurprisingly, quite a nice bit of kit. It provides a high level of reliability insofar as it performs in the same way every time.

With a scope mount like this, you know exactly what you’re going to get: precision targeting, rock steady shooting and an effortless, user-friendly operation.

It boasts a full ring and base mount construction in a single piece (unlike the UTG Med Pro QD Scope Mount). Though, like UTG’s version, it’s made from aircraft-grade aluminum with an anodized black coating.

This is always an elegant choice because it gives the mount a modest sense of sophistication. It’s not overly flashy, but it catches the eye.

Key Features:

This is one of the heaviest scope mounts on the list. This extra heft isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Some shooters prefer a weightier, more substantial attachment. It really depends on what you like to hunt or target practice with.

The whole mount comes in at just under nine ounces. This is, specifically, for the 30mm QD scope mount. If it sounds too chunky, there is a slightly smaller 8.30oz version available (1’’ scope mount).

Like most scope mounts, it is compatible with both Weaver and Picatinny rails. I especially like the ring mounts because they have integrated Picatinny rails.

This allows the user to customize their setup with flashlights, laser pointers and other accessories. There are approximately two inches of forward scope positioning when this mount is securely and correctly fitted.

Final Verdict:

I haven’t even mentioned how satisfying the eye relief is on this Burris Optics quick detach scope mount. The ‘PEPR’ is short for ‘Proper Eye Position Ready.’

Rigorous testing demonstrates just how much time the maker has invested in trying to improve on what went before. This is important because there are lots of decent rifle mounts around. They’re not hard to find.

The best ones don’t settle for decent. They break the experience of shooting into its most basic elements and ensure they all work faster and smoother.

PROS

  • Hight quality aluminum components
  • Great for hunting

CONS

  • The locking mechanism is not very robust
